Biography

Max Ernst (b. 1891 in Brühl bei Köln; d. 1976 in Paris, France) decided to devote himself to painting mainly due to his passion for expressionist art.
After World War I, he founded the Dada group in Cologne and came into contact with young artists from Paris, where he moved in 1922.

With his paintings, collages and sculptures, the artist created enigmatic combinations of images, bizarre creatures, often representing birds, and fantastic landscapes. In addition to his artistic work, Max Ernst wrote poems as well as autobiographical and art theoretical writings.
