The works of Birgit Nadrau and Norihiko Terayama emerge from an attitude of concentration and repetition. Both artists develop their works through slow, precise processes in which time becomes a visible component of the image.
Birgit Nadrau combines painting with aluminum leaf, thereby drawing on the tradition of icon painting. The metallic light is not merely a background but rather the pictorial space – an immaterial realm between the observation of nature and spiritual experience. Her floral motifs appear as fragile apparitions that unfold between light, memory, and transience. Norihiko Terayama develops his relief-like works through an equally ritualized process. Colored drops are applied to a temporary surface; after drying, they are removed individually and affixed to the picture support with entomological pins. Thousands of these elements come together to form vibrant surfaces whose effect unfolds through rhythm, light, and shadow.
Although their materiality and visual language differ significantly, both approaches are united by a meditative conception of art. Repetition becomes a process of insight; precision, a form of mindfulness. The color pink serves as the shared space of resonance – not as a symbol, but as an atmospheric field between physicality and transcendence, between stillness and energy.
